(RTTNews) - A series of terrorist attacks in various parts of Pakistan Friday killed 26 people, mostly women and children.
First of the four incidents occurred in the morning, when a suicide-bomber struck a check-post near Pakistan Air Force's (PAF) main production and maintenance facility in the eastern province of Punjab. Seven persons, including two PAF personnel, were killed and more than a dozen injured in the explosion.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack though it is widely believed to be the work of the Tehrik-e-Taliban, which has carried out a wave of audacious attacks and suicide-bombings over the past two weeks in retaliation to the ongoing military offensive in South Waziristan.
Hours after the suicide attack, a car-bomb went off outside a restaurant on the outskirts of Peshawar, capital of North West Frontier Province (NWFP), injuring more than 15 people.
In the third incident, a civilian was killed when a rocket hit a market in the north-western garrison town of Kohat.
In the most fatal attack of the day, 18 people were killed when a landmine exploded next to a bus in Pakistan's Mohmand tribal district near the Afghan border. The bus, carrying a marriage party, was blown up in the explosion. The dead included twelve women and four children.
A wave of attacks on Pakistani cities has killed more than 200 during October alone.
Meanwhile, Pakistani military said it killed 129 militants in the week-old operation in South Waziristan, despite stiff resistance from them. The Taliban fighters are employing guerrilla tactics, taking advantage of the difficult mountainous terrain.
